Weaving Pirn (6in end-feed)
A pirn for an end-feed shuttle, in the 6in (152mm) length the major shuttle makers list for their 12in shuttles — pirns also come in 5½ and 8in for other shuttles, and the same design cuts to those. A pirn is not a bobbin: it is tapered, the yarn packs on from the fat end down, and the shuttle pays it off over the tip, which is why an end-feed shuttle never backlashes. The taper here runs from a 12mm root to a 6mm tip under a 22mm base flange, with a 6.2mm bore 20mm into the base for the winder spindle — the taper and flange are our design, stated as such, because makers publish lengths, not sections; the wound package ends up the usual inch-and-an-eighth. Prints standing tip-up: the taper narrows as it climbs, so nothing overhangs, but at 152mm tall on a 22mm foot it wants a brim. PETG, sanded smooth — yarn finds every ridge you leave.
