What we need to size it

The board outline, the mounting hole positions, and the height of the tallest component. For every port and switch, tell us the connector type and how far it stands proud of the board. Photographs with a ruler in shot work; a step file or a link to the board's mechanical drawing is better. If you have the board and no measurements, send it and we will measure it.

Lids, fixings and getting back inside

Most enclosures want screws into heat-set brass inserts rather than screwing into bare plastic — the plastic thread strips after a few openings, the insert does not. Snap-fit lids are neat but wear with repeated use. Say whether this is sealed once at build or opened weekly for a battery change, because it changes the design.

Sealing, heat and what FDM will not do

An FDM enclosure is not waterproof and it is not IP-rated. Thick walls and thoughtful design get you splash-resistant; anything more needs a gasket groove and a seal you fit yourself, and even then we are not the ones to certify the rating. Heat matters too: PLA will sag on a warm power supply, so PETG or ASA is the sensible choice where anything inside runs hot.

3D Printed Enclosures & Cases — FAQ

Will a printed enclosure be watertight?+

No. Plain FDM is not watertight or IP-rated. We can design in a gasket groove and thicker walls for splash resistance, but if you need a tested sealed rating, buy a rated enclosure and let us print the internals instead.

Can you add threaded inserts for the lid screws?+

Yes, and we usually recommend it. Heat-set brass inserts survive repeated opening far better than screws biting into printed plastic.

Will it shield my electronics?+

Plastic gives no EMI shielding at all. If your board needs it, plan on a conductive coating or a metal can inside — the enclosure alone will not do it.

Can you copy the size of an existing box?+

Send it or its measurements. Matching an existing footprint and mounting pattern while changing the cut-outs is a common and straightforward job.

How much does 3d printed enclosures & cases cost?+

There is no fixed per-item rate — price comes from how much plastic the part uses, how long it takes to print, how much support and finishing it needs, and how many you want. How long does it take?+

It depends on the size of the part, the queue and the material. Tell us your deadline when you enquire and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable before you commit.

Can I order one of the models from your library?+

Yes. Every model in our print library is a design you can have printed — pick one, choose a material and quantity, and the example price on its page is your starting point. You can also download the file and take it elsewhere; they are all CC0.

Are my files kept private?+

Yes. Uploaded files go to private storage, are never made public, and are only used to quote and produce your job.
